The Home I Never Wanted To Sell…
As a realtor, I want to sell houses - any house, right? As it turns out, that’s not always true. The past two years were marked with the passing of my father-in-law and mother-in-law. So naturally, it was time to sell the home that was theirs for over 40 years and let someone else love it.
As we cleaned out and prepared the house for the market, the memories were everywhere. This is where my kids came to visit their grandparents. We were always welcomed with special waffles, chopped veggies and big smiles. My boys learned to swim in the backyard pool. My wedding and baby showers were hosted in the backyard. They hosted pizza night every Thanksgiving weekend with family and friends.
This was a home that was lived in and full of life. With three boys, you can imagine the aftermath of our weekend visits. They never cared about any mess. They were happy we were there and happy we wanted to be there. They loved the house being full of their family and friends. They loved tinkering in their yard and garden, building campfires and enjoying life’s simple things - the important things.
Although it’s emotional that we can’t pull in the driveway and walk right in - dogs in tow - we also knew that they would love that a new young family (with dogs!) is breathing new life into its old bones. I hope the new owners enjoy it as much as my family did. I hope they make happy memories to last a lifetime. And I think they will - good karma and history are on their side.
