Make Your Resolutions Stick
Now that the New Year’s Eve ball has dropped, so does the success rate of our lofty resolutions, with fewer than 10% of resolution-setters managing to stick the landing. The reason? Expectations are too high, and many targets are unrealistic. It’s possible, however, to set reasonable intentions and stick to them. The key is to keep it simple.
Start small. Rather than vowing to hit the gym daily, aim to work out 3-4 times a week as you establish a new routine and healthy habits.
Be realistic. Keep goals small and measurable. One achievable resolution may be better than tackling a number of big, sweeping changes.
Share goals. Rely on a good friend as an accountability partner, or consider forming a support group.
Be flexible. If you’re changing behaviors, like cutting sugar or caffeine, make sure you have appealing alternatives on hand, such as flavored seltzer or herbal tea.
Pace yourself. If you fall short, remember you’re only human and tomorrow is another day!
